Each control loads that case on the sheet. The figures are the ones the scale, the outline, or the waste setting produces. They are not sample captions pasted over a different result.

Paid sheet and takeoff

Free files are a PNG, a table PDF, CSV, DXF and a project file. No account and no watermark. The pass, the month and the lifetime unlock an auto-dimension PDF, an auto-dimension SVG, and a takeoff zip with a signature page. Every paid line prints its formula. No prices and no tin counts.

Skirting is the perimeter minus the door width you traced. Leaders are drawn only on segments you have already traced.

Living floor 3.30 m²

Skirting net 6.20 m

Paint, one coat 16.72 m²

Living room floor 3.00 m² x 1.10. Skirting 7.00 m - 0.80 m. Paint (7.00 m x 2.40 m - 0.80 m x 2.00 m) x 1.10.

Results depend on drawing quality, the calibration length, and where you trace. They are not a substitute for measuring on site, a statutory valuation, or a professional quantity survey.

How the numbers are produced

This desk starts on Elm Cottage so a rejected file has something to leave behind. Plan source reads example, the name reads Elm Cottage, and the total reads 4.80 m² before you touch a control. The job on this page is narrower than the home calculator: open someone else’s drawing, set one trustworthy length, trace one room, and export. The sample reference is still the 400 pixel wall from (100, 80) to (500, 80) at 2.00 m.

The three file examples load elm-cottage.png, elm-cottage.jpg, and elm-cottage.pdf. Each is calibrated on that same 400 pixel wall as 2.00 m, then a 400 by 300 pixel outline is traced. The room reads 3.00 m² on all three. The PNG and JPG are 860 by 480 pixels. The PDF page is 430 by 240 points and is rasterised at 2 pixels per point, which lands on the same 860 by 480 grid. Zooming to 200 percent after the trace does not move the area off 3.00 m². View zoom, PDF zoom, and screen zoom are not the scale.

A trustworthy dimension is a wall whose real length you already know, drawn parallel to the sheet, not a door swing or a title-block note. Type both ends and the real length, then apply. That one segment sets the page. A second line is averaged with the first. If the two factors differ from their mean by more than 5 percent, you get a warning and the average is still used. If you have neither a known wall nor a printed ratio, clear the scale. The readout stays in drawing units only. A 400 pixel line remains 400 px. Real fields say Not to scale. The tool will not infer a scale from a door width, a bath, or a ceiling height.

Magic bytes are checked before a drawing replaces the sample. An empty PNG says “This file is empty.” and the total stays 4.80 m². notes.txt says “Use a PDF, JPG or PNG plan.” A file named like a PNG whose bytes are not a PNG says “This file is not a readable PDF, JPG or PNG.” A file that begins with %PDF but cannot be parsed says “This PDF could not be opened.” Files over 25 MB, which is 26,214,400 bytes, are refused. Drawings over about 40 million pixels are refused. HEIC photos are not supported. A room photograph or a perspective sketch is not a plan, and one known wall cannot correct a distorted scan. If the sheet was photographed at an angle, lengths at the far edge will not match lengths at the near edge no matter which wall you type.

A successful open names the plan “Uploaded plan” and sets the source to upload. The original file name is never copied into the plan name, the downloads, or the analytics. Downloads stay floor-plan-measurements.png, .pdf, .csv, and .dxf. They have no watermark. They are not the auto-dimensioned sheet and not the signed takeoff pack. The free PDF is a table of the lengths you traced. Closing the plan, or refreshing, drops it. The page says the plan is not kept. There is no account to put it in.

Measure one page at a time. A two-page PDF keeps a separate scale on page 2. Calibrating page 1 to 2.00 m does not fill page 2. Page 2 stays Not to scale until you calibrate it, and the pixel length of the coordinate fields is still shown, 400 px when those fields still read 100, 80, 500, 80. Going back to page 1 restores the 2.00 m you set there, until you refresh. That check lives on the measurement-tool page; this page is the open-and-calibrate path.

Where these figures get used

An agent with a JPG from a listing can open it, set the one dimension printed beside a wall, and read the room they were asked about. If that wall is the 400 pixel sample wall and the printed length is 2.00 m, the 400 by 300 pixel room is 3.00 m². If the scan is skewed, stop. The number will not be repairable from a second click.

A contractor comparing a PDF issue with a PNG export of the same sheet can run both examples. When the same wall is calibrated to 2.00 m, both give 3.00 m² for the 400 by 300 pixel room. A difference means the two files are not the same crop, not that PNG and PDF use different maths.

Before you trust a takeoff, confirm the scale on this desk and read the leader comparison on the floor plan dimensions page. A manual label sitting on the wall and an offset leader of the same 2.00 m segment are different marks. This page only produces the length. It does not draw the paid architectural sheet.

Offset leaders, the 40 mm scale table, and the 1.92 m versus 2.00 m gap are drawn on the floor plan dimensions page.

Common questions

Which files can I open?

PDF, JPG and PNG. HEIC photos are not supported. A room photo or a perspective picture is not a plan, and one known wall cannot correct a distorted scan.

Do PDF, JPG and PNG give the same length?

Yes, when you calibrate the same wall. Zooming the view does not change the measured length or area. A multi-page PDF keeps a separate scale on each page.

What is a known wall?

Type the two ends of a wall and enter the real length. That length sets the scale for the whole page. A second line is averaged with the first. If the lines disagree by more than 5 percent, the tool warns you and still shows the average.

Does the free download have a watermark?

No. The free PNG, PDF, CSV and DXF have no watermark. They are not the auto-dimensioned architectural sheet or the signed takeoff pack.

Where does the file go?

It stays in this browser until you close the plan or refresh. Nothing is written to an account, and this site has no accounts.

The rest of the desk

Each of these opens the same measuring rules on a different job. Calibration is shared. A scale you set on one page is not stored for the next visit.
